We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

Very nice editorial in n+1.

When I was in Army basic training in 2002 for some reason they made us each write a paper about, I think, why we joined. Even though I was totally ignorant about politics and the world back then, I managed to shoehorn my opinion (the way I tend to do 🙂 ) about the newly started ‘war on terror’ in there.

If PFC Dickhead from Pittsburgh was able to understand that OBL and da boyz wanted to drain the USA economically, and we were basically walking into a trap way back then, this is no great insight.

Well, I don’t know, but it’s hard for me to believe that they actually planned to drain the USA economically; I can’t imagine these guys being so artful. And also that they would care enough about the US, other than to keep it away from their region.

I think all they wanted was to make a statement, dramatic theatrical statement, like a frustrated housewife throwing plates against the wall.

You do know bin Laden went to school for economics?

Add to that that he isn’t a fighter, just a money man, I can definitely see him being that artful. Of course he’s a CIA doop too, so who knows how deep it really goes.

Really, you only need to know what happened to the Russians. And who would know better than the people that did it.

I dunno. I don’t believe they bankrupted the Soviets either. Humiliated – sure. Bankrupted? Nah.

I would say that the USA have been bankrupt for a while. The only thing missing is to declare it. What we’re talking about is overextending yourself and causing internal collapse. We don’t have to declare bankruptcy because “those in power” misuse the public credit. It’s our enemy, causing us to abuse the power to create credit so much that the same collapse that always happens to empires happens.

Better than the alternative I say. City streets -> dusty roads. Me -> 🙂
