I live in terror of not being misunderstood

This new Zizek-related controversy opened by the TNR (The Deadly Jester) accusing him of being a stalinist and anti-semite (of course) and god knows what else is certainly the funniest thing this week. It could easily end up being the funniest thing of the month as well.

It also produced a bunch of hillarious NRO entries, under the rubric of Liberal Fascism for some reason. Well, the (highly amusing) reason is, of course, that in America both the wingnuts and liberals tend to use the words ‘liberal’ and ‘left’ interchangeably. But it seems they regret it now; one of the NRO correspondents writes: “…the influence of someone like Zizek is worrying because it reveals diminished capacity to distinguish between ordinary liberals and monsters.” Poor wingnut, he almost seems tolerant of all those “ordinary liberals” now when he’d seen a real monster.

Zizek, lucky bastard.

Wow! Talk about tortured reasoning. Or is Kirsch writing parody?
