Glenn Greenwald thinks that the recent phenomenon of a few incidents of wingnut nastiness backfiring is an indication of some tectonic plate shift:

…not only the demise of the right-wing faction that has dominated the Republican Party for decades, but also the death of their ugliest and most toxic tactics…

Bullshit, mon ami; neither demise nor death. The group receptive to these tactics used to be a small majority, and this time around it’s only a large minority, big deal. As long as major political players have nothing to offer other than hatred for their opponent, the ugliness will be with us. And that is not going to change anytime soon.
